RATING: READ IT
Oh, cliffhanger, why do you taunt me so?
I always tell myself, “No cliffhangers!” Then, I inevitably get sucked in to reading the synopsis and I can’t resist diving in. I saw the listing for The Boss Vol. 1: a Hot Billionaire Romance by Cari Quinn + Taryn Elliott in the middle of December when Vols. 1-3 had already been released.
My general concern with cliffhangers is that I’m not invested enough after one book to wait until the second release and still retain all of the fine details. I figured that with three books out, I would get in deep enough and that Vol. 4 was close to release, so I’d be ok jumping in. When will I learn? LOL
It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t enjoy this series so much! I just want to keep reading until the end. A good problem to have many would say. Some of you can’t stand cliffhangers and I totally get that. If you’re ok with them, then by all means, dive in NOW! If you need to read from start to finish, Vol. 5 is slated for release on February 12, and Vol. 6 (the final book in the series) should be out sometime in March.
There’s a lot of tension in these books and I actually think that the series being parsed out lends itself well to that. Often times, if there’s an unknown backstory (and this series has PLENTY of that!), I just keep reading until I learn their secrets. The Boss forces me to wait. As much as that frustrates me, it keeps it interesting. The sex is tension-filled too. In a way that is subtle and that I don’t often find in other books. It’s so hot and cold that it runs even hotter, if that makes any sense.
As you’re probably learning by now, I’m not too much into the detail of each novel, but this one has a lot of twists and turns and is definitely keeping me guessing, which I LOVE! Predictability is boring. I’m left with so many questions after having finished Vol. 4 last night and it’s driving me a bit crazy, but that’s what you sign up for when you commit to a cliffhanger series. That’s ok. As I said, that’s part of the fun when it’s a great read.
For now, my rating is a solid Read It. Once all is said and done, I might upgrade to a Buy It, but as I’m pretty new to this whole blog/review thing, I’m not comfortable giving a Buy It rating until I complete a book (or series, as it may be).
If you jump in now, I’d love to hear what you think so far and if you have any guesses as to where it’s going!
