RATING: READ IT
I don’t know about you, but when an author I love suggests checking out another author, I’m always more inclined to do so. Last week, Kate Canterbary (writer of The Walsh Series – one of my all-time favorites) posted about an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) for Fiona Davenport’s latest Baby Steps (Yeah, Baby Book 2). I’d already read and reviewed her Risqué Contracts series and really liked it. So, when the opportunity came up to read more of her work, I jumped at the chance.
Baby Steps (which is available for pre-order, but will be available on KU on March 14) is the second book in the Yeah, Baby series and although it’s a standalone, I always like to read a series from start to finish, so I’m familiar with any characters that may pop up in later books. On top of that, these are all what many refer to as Quick + Dirty reads, so an extra hour to read the first book wasn’t a hurdle. Plus, all of Ms. Davenport’s books are available on Kindle Unlimited, so that made the decision that much easier.
I really enjoyed Ms. Davenport’s first series, but I am LOVING the Yeah, Baby series. The first book in the series is Baby, You’re Mine and as the name of the series implies, these all feature babies. In fact, they’re all “oops” babies. Being a person that loves kids, but doesn’t necessarily want kids, I wasn’t sure I’d connect with them, but trust me ~ even if you feel the same way as I do about having children, these books are really good. They’re cute and sexy. The men are quintessential Alphas and the heroines are strong and sexy too. The writing and dialogue are excellent. And, I have to say, for an über grammar nerd, these are virtually flawless!
There are a number of authors in the Q+D genre and I love them all. However, I am quickly moving Ms. Davenport to the top of my list. Even though these books are short, she seems to build a much stronger backstory and connection between the characters that makes the insta-love (which is pretty much a given in the Q+D genre) much more believable than others in the genre. Plus, I absolutely LOVE her epilogues. I can say with all certainty, that I will read whatever Ms. Davenport releases and I am eagerly awaiting Book 3 in this series, Baby, Don’t Go, which is slated for release on March 28. If you’re a fan of Q+D reads, move these books to the top of your TBR list!
