RATING: BUY IT
This is why I read.
To experience those moments when a rush of heat travels through your chest. When you feel your eyes begin to fill with tears and spill over and down your cheeks. When your breathing becomes labored and you just…break.
This is why I read.
Three months ago, this blog didn’t exist and now I’m sitting here writing a review from an ARC of Brittainy C. Cherry’s new novel, The Fire Between High & Lo, before it’s even released (it comes out on this Friday). Having devoured every single book she’s written, I can’t begin to tell you how surreal this is.
The Fire Between High & Lo is the second book in Ms. Cherry’s Elements Series, after The Air He Breathes (you can read my review here), but they are each standalone novels with an entirely different cast of characters.
The Fire Between High & Lo is the story of Alyssa + Logan. It is a beautifully crafted story full of angst and anger. Sadness and love. Triumph and defeat. Hope, bewilderment and disbelief. Words and actions that rip out your heart. Words and actions that make your heart feel as though it cannot be contained in your body.
There are times when you will laugh and smile and feel as though you want their world to stop and let them just be in the moment. And there are times that you will cry and cry and then cry some more. There were times that I had to close the book because I needed them to stay in their bliss and there were times that I had to close the book because I simply wasn’t ready for what was coming next.
There is something so beautiful about Ms. Cherry’s writing and the way she crafts a story. Her words are so deliberate, yet so subtle. They make your breath catch. They make you want to scream.
As in all of her novels, you know that your heart will be torn apart. Yet, again, as in all of her novels, she will assuredly put your heart back together. The journey is truly where the magic lies. You will be content as you turn the last page, but you will never forget the voyage.
This is why I read.
As of 3.25.16, The Fire Between High & Lo will be available on Kindle Unlimited.
