Shower of Stars by Nancy Herkness

“I’ve got all the stars I need right here.”

It’s no secret that, since reading the excellent The CEO Buys In (Wager of Hearts Book 1), I have become a fan of Nancy Herkness. As a consequence, I’ve been slowly but surely making my way through her back-catalogue of books, which is how I came to read Shower of Stars.

My first thought when I read that blurb — a blurb that outlines a marriage of convenience between a somewhat reclusive meteorite hunter and a journalist looking to adopt a baby — was that it had the potential to be one of two things… A runaway success or a runaway mess.

Thankfully for me, and you, it was a runaway success.

Smart and fun, and actually really interesting and educational (I didn’t just read this book; I learned from it), Shower of Stars is the kind of book you start reading and not realize you’ve devoured until you look up and see that the sun has gone down, the stars — appropriately — are shining bright, and the HEA has left you smiling.

I really enjoyed the back and forth of Jack + Charlie. Their relationship started with a bang… or more specifically, a crash, and from there it was banter and tension and sweet, unexpected and mysterious moments. The pacing was spot on, the twists coming from left field and the story one that has the whole range of emotions to offer — happiness, sadness, fear, frustration, suspense, horniness (100% an emotion… I think?!) and hope. And that’s not even mentioning Charlie’s wonderful, quirky friends, who are instrumental in making this whole story come together in a way that’s not just pleasing but altogether out of this world.

“Ms. Berglund, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
She stared at him for a moment. “Has radiation from your space rocks scrambled your brain waves?”
“I see gallantry is wasted on you.”

As of 01.24.2017, Shower of Stars is available on Kindle Unlimited.
