Riptide by Kathryn Nolan

Last year, I came across a novella called Cuffed by Kathryn Nolan. Most novellas are quick-and-dirties and while they’re fun, they rarely move me or stay with me. Cuffed was a major exception to that rule. It was extremely well-written and more than anything, it was different. It took risks we don’t often see in the genre. I love debut authors and 51wH8sQJP+Lcouldn’t stop talking about it or Kathryn. I wanted everyone to read her. My one gripe: I wished it had been a full-length novel. Her writing was so good, I simply wanted more. Well, starting today, we can all experience Riptide, Kathryn’s first full-length novel. And trust me, you will want to experience this one.

Riptide is the story of Avery + Finn. Avery is the corporate developer for a major hotel chain working on the planning for a new hotel complex in Playa Vieja, a pristine, untouched strip of beach in San Diego and Finn is the local, but famous, surfer working to stop Avery and her firm from destroying his beach.

I have waited for this book for what seems like forever and it was worth every moment. Kathryn is a fabulous story teller and has masterfully crafted their entire journey. Every experience, every word, every step these two take is utterly perfect. Enemies to Lovers is never an easy trope to traverse, but Riptide feels real and natural. I don’t often read books in a single sitting these days, but I literally read Riptide in one shot. I couldn’t put it down and it kept me interested at every turn.

Now, I’m not going to lie—one of the things that I loved about Cuffed was the sex and Riptide is no exception. Kathryn is one of my favorite writers when it comes to sexy times. {On a side note, if you’re on Facebook, I highly recommend you check out her page and her #sexyshorts. She is a master of the short-form sex scene.} I don’t want to give anything away, but again Kathryn does something different here from most books in the sexual relationship between these two characters and it kept me on my toes. I absolutely love the sexual dynamic between Avery + Finn.

I came across a line in the book that I simply had to share here as it captured my experience to a tee: “Kind and charming and funny on the outside. Filthy and dominating behind closed doors.” To me, that sums up Riptide better than anything I could ever say. Please, please do yourself a favor and grab this book. I guarantee you’ll love it.

As of 4.4.17, Riptide is available on Kindle Unlimited.
