RATING: READ IT
Bitch Slap by J. Kenner—One of my favorite things in a book is when the cocky jerk gets knocked down a peg by the strong leading lady. From the moment that Pierce meets Jez, Jez throws him off his game. They both think their meeting is about something else and the conversation that ensues had me laughing at the reactions they were having to each other. Pierce is the alpha man who loves ’em and leaves ’em, and Jez is a strong heroine who takes crap from nobody. When their paths intersect and Pierce realizes who Jez is, he feels a need to protect her—and he isn’t sure what to do with that. This is a short novella with all of the heat that J. Kenner is known to give us in her longer novels. The story is good and quick moving and Pierce + Jez have great chemistry. This was a good read and easily read in an afternoon by the pool—the perfect summer read!
Takedown by Lea Hart—I was excited to see Lea Hart go into a MMA fighting series. I haven’t read a lot in that world and I was anxious to read something a little different. If you have ever read any of Lea’s books, you know they all run around a common theme of alpha men and the strong women they fall for. Matt + Bree fall exactly into those lines. I loved watching Matt fall all over himself getting Bree to give him a chance. This couple was easy to like and the secondary characters, like Bree’s family and friends, made for a great story. I can’t wait to see who gets the next story in this series!
Sexy Jerk by Kim Karr—I find that I fall in love with each and every one of Kim’s books. I always love the group of friends in her stories and she does such a great job giving the reader not only well-developed main characters, but secondary characters as well. Tess + Nick have close friends that have a child. When they go out of town for a few weeks, they ask Nick + Tess to watch Max. Tess has always viewed Nick as a crude and crass playboy. As she gets to know him, she sees a side of him that she never saw before. However, if she would have looked more closely, it was always there. Nick has always been interested in Tess and now that he’s been given a chance, he vows that he will make her see the real him. I absolutely adored Nick’s interactions with Max. Nick is a totally hot and swoon-worthy book boyfriend. I can’t wait to read the next story about this group of friends.
Fix Her Up by Carey Heywood—This was a great story of a woman taking control of her life. Finley is getting out of a bad marriage and wants to start her life over in a place where nobody knows her and it can be a complete do-over. She buys a house, sight unseen, and moves to New Hampshire. When she gets there, it’s going to need a lot more than TLC to fix it up. Noah is a handyman in town. He goes over to Finley’s to see how he might be able to offer his services, and he is taken with the beauty that opens the door. He falls from the minute he sets his eyes on her, but knows that Finley needs to fix herself before she is ready for anyone in her life. Finley + Noah have a beautiful friends-to-lovers story. Noah is the perfect book boyfriend. I not only fell for him, but for his family as well. I can’t wait to hear their stories too! Looking forward to the next book in this series!
