“I came because you’re all I want. Ever since I first saw you, you’re all I want. And I had a feeling maybe you wanted me too.”

Open-Hearts

OH. MY. GOSH. You guys, I picked up Open Hearts by Eve Dangerfield on a recommendation from Tessa Bailey, who posted about it in her reader’s group. She said she loved it, and since I love her… well, I gave it a chance.

I am so glad I did!

Though I have something of a love/hate relationship with it, I can safely say that this book is brilliant. Set in Australia—my hometown of Melbourne and its surrounds, no less—it’s the story of Ashley + Dean. And oooh, DEAN.

I’ll come back to him, because I have so much love for him, but before I do, I want to admit something. I misjudged Ash. I started off not much liking her—her fixation on seemingly superficial things irking me to no end—and every time she {or someone else} made a comment about Dean that failed to see the very, very good heart beating hugely and openly within, I’d get so farken mad. You have no idea. I was like, I can’t read this; they don’t appreciate him.

But I should have had more faith in Ms. Dangerfield. Because, by the end, I was team Ashley all the way. She knew what she wanted and she reached for it. And though she took some detours and some time to get there, she finally saw what she needed to see. Which was, of course, Dean. And who could blame her? He’s just… oof, the sweetest, kindest, happiest hero in the history of EVER. I adored him. He was all the best parts of having a loyal puppy, but hot and human and a little kinky which was *fire*. JC, I’m getting flushed again just thinking about it…

Oh, how I ached for him. I wanted to coddle him, cuddle him and come—you know what, I’m not finishing that thought. Just know that he is wonderfully lovable. Sweet. Cute. Adorable. Open-hearted, just like the title implies. And, in his own words “a bit of a lost c*nt.”

Together, he + Ash are so completely Australian, I felt like I was back at the Mt. Eliza Footy Club, drinking beers and perving on the blokes in their little shorts, and honestly, I don’t know if I loved that… or not. It’s complex. It was a trip back fifteen years and a few thousand kilometres, to stubbies and rides into the CBD on the train and people saying things like yeah, nah and she’ll be right, mate. It was home—the bogan version—and it made my heart hurt a little. #BecauseHome.

Side note: The blurb {and cover} note that Open Hearts is the sequel to Locked Box, and while we see plenty of Jules + Max, there’s no need to wait to jump into Ash + Dean’s story. It reads completely standalone, and anything Jules + Max related is just the icing on the cake. I’ve not read their story, but I hope to. One day, when I’m ready to go home again. Until then, I’m keeping my heart open for lost Dean and lovely Ash, and passing on the recommendation I got from Bailey’s Babes. READ THIS BOOK!

If I’d known you were coming, I would have lived differently. I would have made sure I had something to show for myself when you got there, but I didn’t and I can’t go back.

Ah, the best laid plans…

If ever there were a romance novel that fit that sentiment, it would be Hot Cop by Laurelin Paige and Sierra Simone—two authors I’d read individually, but never together. To say that their writing is seamless is an understatement. If there hadn’t been two names on the cover, there’s no way you’d know. Ok, back to the story…

hot-cop_amazon

Hot Cop is the story of Chase, the hot cop {obviously}, otherwise known as Officer Good Times, your quintessential alpha male, dirty talking, sexy AF leading man, and Livia, the sexy librarian who has sworn off men. Except for one thing—she wants a baby. And Chase? He wants Livia. So they make a deal: he gets all the sex he wants. She gets a baby. No strings attached. Have I mentioned the best laid plans yet?

I feel like I’ve already said too much, but that’s all in the blurb and truthfully, even if you think you know what will happen, you don’t. So curl up on the couch or head out to the beach one perfect summer day and take Hot Cop with you. It’s sexy and funny and will entertain you every step of the way. This is one read that is so easy to get lost in, you can’t help but fall in love.

As of 06.25.2017, Open Hearts and Hot Cop are available with Kindle Unlimited.

Great reviews! I also purchased Open Hearts based on Tessa Bailey’s recommendation. I haven’t read it yet, but I am so glad I purchased it. I moved it up my TBR pile. Hot Cop is also waiting for me ❤
