White Knight by CD Reiss

white knightOne of the authors I see so many great books from—but don’t get to read much of—is CD Reiss, and I was thrilled to find out that her latest release, White Knight, was going to be KU. That was all I needed to hear to pick this baby up! I am so glad I did.

Chris + Catherine’s story is the perfect storm for a second chance romance. They were each other’s first everything, but with Chris from the wrong side of the tracks and Catherine from the upper class, it was a recipe for disaster. When Chris disappeared from town, Catherine always hoped that she’d hear from him—that he’d come back like he promised. And he does. Ten years later, Chris comes back to town, hoping to return to the only woman he’s ever truly loved . . .

This story was emotional for me on many levels. Chris left town with his dog, Lance, who was his best friend. There is something about a pet’s presence in our life that grounds us and stabilizes us, and Lance was such a key piece to Chris’s story. Animals become our family and, sometimes, they show us the way home. I’m a huge animal person and it moved me to see this connection play out because it’s a connection I’ve seen often in the animal rescue I’ve done.

Catherine also invoked deep emotion in me. Though she grew up privileged, it wasn’t the type of person she needed or wanted to be. She would give the shirt off her back if she thought it would help someone else. She was completely selfless and I wanted her to find the passion and love her life lacked. I loved her character so much.

Chris + Catherine—although theirs was a young love, it was a deep love and I could feel that within every chapter. They had a connection that leapt off the page and I simply couldn’t put this book down. White Knight was a great read and I will definitely be heading back to check out King of Code and Prince Charming, the other two standalone books set in this world.

As of 03.07.18, White Knight is available with Kindle Unlimited.
