Breakaway by A.M. Johnson

breakawayMy goal of reading new authors in 2018 is turning into a smashing success!  I feel like I have really struck gold with the books that I’m reading. I’ve had A.M. Johnson’s books on my TBR for what feels like forever and, when I was finally able to read/listen to Poet last month, I was completely blown away by her unique writing style. I couldn’t wait to see what she would do with her latest, Breakaway.

Ms. Johnson’s writing has a touch of poetry to it and I’ve found that she completely captures my soul each time I read her words. From her angsty, heartbreaking stories to this hockey romance, her talent brings the pages, her characters, to life.

Stevie + Mark’s journey is a second chance romance that explores the chemistry they’d walked away from a year earlier. Both had been in bad relationships before but, when they find one another again, they can’t ignore the pull they shared.

My favorite thing about this book—and about Mark + Stevie’s relationship—is that the story felt real.  Mark was not a man-whore who found that one girl who stopped him in his tracks; he was someone who loved his family and who had been burned before, but wanted to take a chance with Stevie nonetheless. Meanwhile, Stevie, just out of a relationship, was coming to grips with who she was as a person, and learning how to stand on her own, when she ran into Mark again. She couldn’t help but remember the night they met—and wanting to explore the connection she felt with him then.

I could feel that want and that need in these characters; the desire they had for each other as they pursued their relationship and, as such, I devoured this book in one sitting. I have become a big fan of Ms. Johnson’s and I can’t wait to see what’s next from her.

If you are a sports romance fan, you definitely need to check out Breakaway!

As of 03.15.18, Breakaway is available with Kindle Unlimited.
