Poet by A.M. Johnson

poetOver the last couple of years, there has been an author whose books continually popped up in my Facebook feed, yet I never seemed to get to them. Until a month or so ago, that is, when I won an audio book of A.M. Johnson’s Poet. I had already bought the whole series, knowing I’d love them, and was just trying to find a time to get to them. Well, once I started listening to Poet, I couldn’t stop. And since there are only so many hours I can spend in my car, I alternated between reading and listening to this riveting story.

I was completely held at its mercy—torn apart by Melissa’s past and what she had suffered, then healed through Kieran’s words. This story was so full of description, of beautiful prose, that I felt every emotion possible. A.M. Johnson writes in such a way that even the scenes that left me in tears were worded spectacularly. She has a way with words, and it’s a gift she shares with her readers.

Poet was a little different for me in that Melissa was the one with a dark past and was trying to move on with her life. Usually I find it’s the guy in this situation, but instead, Kieran is a breath of fresh air and he completely stole my heart while he stole hers. This man, who was always destined for great things, discovered his future when he found Melissa.

I started this series backwards, and got to know Kieran’s brothers through his story. I can only guess that each of the books in the Avenues Ink series are as spectacular as Poet. If you are an angst lover, you will want to check out Melissa + Kieran’s story. The words will hold you captive and the imagery will haunt your dreams. I was held spellbound through this heartbreakingly beautiful story.

Do yourself a favor and grab this one, then move it to the top of your TBR. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

As of 04.17.18, Poet is available with Kindle Unlimited.
