Ace of Spades by Sandra Owens

ace of spadesSandra Owens is an author I stumbled upon when looking for books that were in KU that also had free audible. She writes hot, badass men with strong leading ladies, which I absolutely love! I have devoured everything by her, and have been anxiously waiting for the chance to read the third book in the Aces & Eights series, which is Ace of Spades.

Finally, we get Nate Gentry’s story. This series revolves around the Gentry brothers, who are all downright lethal in their own way, but there has always been something about Nate for me. He is the protective older brother, the one who shielded his younger brothers from an abusive father, and provided for them when no one else would. My heart has broken for these men and what they have lived through, but it breaks most for Nate and the way he sees himself as incapable of love.

I knew that Taylor + Nate’s story would move me. They’re best friends who have both always wanted more, but have never crossed the line. They work side-by-side in the FBI—and there is always tension there—but what really spoke to me is the fact that the friendship they have, the love they share, is already such an important relationship to them. They are each an essential part in the other’s life, and I could see why it was scary for Nate to cross any lines—he can’t lose the one stable relationship he has.

This story is fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat, as all of the books in this series have. I loved watching Taylor penetrate Nate’s walls to show him that he’s worthy of love. As always, the witty banter and affection between the brothers made me swoon, but my favorite part of this book was the last chapter because it sets things up for more things to come. I thought this would be the last in the series and was pleasantly surprised to see more headed my way! Great read!

As of 04.24.18, Ace of Spades is available with Kindle Unlimited.
